How to Link to PDFs and Calendar Files

When you have a file you’d like to share with your subscribers, for example a PDF or a calendar event, it’s best to link to it, rather than attach it. Offering links not only keeps large files out of your reader’s inboxes and keeps you from looking like a Spammer, it’s also a great way to gauge whether your subscribers actually opened the file.

You can upload your PDF, ICS calendar files and more to the emfluence Marketing Platform in order to easily share them with your subscribers as linked content. You can add these as a link to a button or behind and image in the Drag and Drop editor or in a text element using the text editor.

To add the link in text (or an image inside a text element), highlight the text and click the link button in the editor.

When the link editor pops up, click Browse Server instead of typing in a URL.

You may want to create a new folder specifically for PDFs or other file types. Once you’re in the correct folder, if you haven't already uploaded the PDF or .ics file, click the Upload button to upload the new file. If the file exists already, click the select button to choose your file.

Your file link is now a clickable, trackable link in your message. This method would also work for PDF files.

To insert your iCal or PDF file behind an Image element or a Button element in the Drag & Drop, use the Folder option under URL in your settings and follow the same process to choose the file from your Uploaded Files.
