Removing Contacts from Groups
There are multiple ways you can remove contacts from group. These include changing the group membership on a single contact record, bulk updating and removing several contacts from a list view all at once, removing contacts via a manual import, using the remove from source group option on an automated email, and through use of a data sync or the emfluence API.
Removing from the Contact Record
The easiest way to remove a single contact from a group is on that contact's record. Launch the contact record by clicking on the contact's email and navigate to the Groups tab on the record. Then, to remove a contact from the group, you can click the trashcan icon under the Remove from Group column.
Removing from Search or Group View
You can also remove one or more contacts from a list of search results or a group-level list. Using the Manage Groups icon above your list of contacts, you can add or remove selected contacts to one or more groups. To removing everyone in your results you would click on the icon without first selecting contacts. To remove only select contact(s), first click on the contact(s) you wish to remove and then click on the icon. Click Continue and then Confirm to complete the process.
Removing via an Import
You can also remove contacts through a manual import. You would follow the same first two steps of importing contacts (select your file and map your fields). On the third step of the import rather than adding contacts in your file to a group you would choose the group you would want to remove them from under the Remove From Groups option.Click Import and confirm your choices.
Remove From Source Group (On an Automated Email)
One of the settings on an automated email allows you to remove contacts from the Source Group feeding the email. This would remove that contact from the group after being sent the email and allow them to be re-added to the group and queued up for the email again (as long as their contact frequency made them eligible to get sent the email again within the timeframe they were re-added to the group). On the Delivery Options step of your automated email, you would check the box to Remove recipients from source group.
API & Data Syncs
Contacts can also be removed from groups via API calls (or third party tools making use of API Tokens) and via a custom Data Sync.
