Sharing a Tweet within an Email

Did you know you have the ability to create a tweet inside an email an allow your recipients to tweet it out with a simple click?

If you don't want to spend the time to create it yourself, you can use clicktotweet to create the tweet code for you (a good option in you need to create several of these all at once) which you can then share as a link. If you just need one tweet to share and want to build it yourself, or if you are curious about how it is accomplished, you can follow the steps below.

To create a tweet to share go ahead and style whatever message you would like and then use this link https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text= followed by your message to create the text of the tweet you want to share in the email. In this example from an email about emfluence Conference 2016, you can see the text was created an stylized in brand colors. (Note: the actually orange-colored text isn't necessary as the tweet itself will come through the link, but it is a good idea to let your contacts know what they might be tweeting.) We then added in the Twitter logo and linked both it and the "Tweet & Share" text to this URL: https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=I%27m going to %23emflConf this year! http://emfl.us/vDRd.

When clicked, the result is a new tweet being created with the text from the URL inside.

You will notice our tweet had to handle spaces between words, and apostrophe, and a hashtag we wanted all included in the link. Because none of these characters can exist in the URL, we had to replace them with a few extra characters.

  • For spaces add either a + or   between each word
  • For an apostrophe add %27 between the two halves of the contraction
  • For a hashtage use %23
  • For the @ symbol use %40
  • For an & symbol use %26
