Compose
View a walk-through of the compose process in the emfluence ClickLearn section here.
When creating a new manual or automated email the first step will be to select your template. If your account has several templates, you can use the search bar at the top of the page to find your template. If you have HTML and want to compose an email without a template, you can use the Paste In Code option. If your user has access to Template Builder, you can use the Manage Template link to edit your templates.
Once you have selected your template, you will be taken to the Compose step where you will be able to compose your email. Click here for more information about composing using the Drag & Drop Editor.
When your new email is created you will need to fill in some basic information at the top including Title (this is the internal title of your email so you can find it again for reporting purposes), the Subject of your email, From Name, and From Email. NOTE: Your account has a list of verified domains available to send from, if you attempt to use a domain not on the list the send will fail. Only domains authenticated in the emfluence Marketing Platform during set-up should be used and you should NEVER send from public addresses such as Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo! as this breaks those email providers Terms of Service. If you leave Reply to Name and Reply to Name blank they will default to the sender.
Just below the title you can click the Assign Campaigns link to assign this email to one or more emfluence Campaigns (for reporting purposes). In the pop-up, you can select any campaign from the left menu and click the Add button to move it into the right column of Assigned Campaigns. If you accidentally add the wrong campaign, select the campaign you want to remove in the right column and click Remove to return it to the Available Campaigns on the left. If you haven't created a campaign yet, you can do so here by typing the name of the campaign in the box below the right column and clicking Add. As always, remember to Save.
The buttons below the input fields allow to add Google Analytics tracking to your links, turn View or Click Tracking off in an email, edit the Text version of your email, edit the default Forward to a Friend messaging, Embed Images in the email, and send a BCC copy of your email to a specific email address.
- Clicking the "Google Analytics" button will allow you to tie the email to your GA as long as it has been previously set-up in your account. In the pop-up, check the box to Enable Google Analytics Tracking to update your Google Campain, Medium, and Source. To making the data easier to read in GA we suggest removing any spaces in the fields you add (Ex: If your email is titled New Christmas Offer the GA Campaign will default to that same value, consider changing it to NewChristmasOffer).
- By default, emfluence tracks both views (email opens) and clicks. If needed, you can turn off either option using the Tracking button by sliding the radio button to off for one or both of these settings. NOTE: If you disable both of these settings, emfluence will not be able to offer reporting metrics for these activities.
- emfluence will automatically create a text version of your email based on the email content (unless you have disabled this feature on your template). The Text Version button allows you to edit the text version of your email.
- Using the BCC button will allow you to send a copy of every email to a single email address for compliance purposes, auditing, or third-party integrations. NOTE: Be careful with this feature as it will double your send volume. For example, if you send an email to 30,000 recipients, the BCC address will also be sent 30,000 emails, bringing your total send volume to 60,000. Also, any engagement by the BCC address (view, click, unsubscribe, bounce, etc...), will be applied to the metrics of the email and will be reflected on the corresponding contact's record.
BCC bounces will not be reflected in the bounce reporting. If any of your BCC messages bounce (usually because too many copies were delivered to an email address not able to support the high volume) those will be reflected in a BCC Bounce report which will only be shown if one or more of your BCC copies fails. The report will show a full list of which contacts a BCC copy was not able to be delivered.
- One of the system links you can use on your email is Forward to a Friend which allows someone to forward a copy of the email they received to another person. The Default F2F Message allows you to edit the default messaging on the Forward to a Friend page. NOTE: This functionality isn't deployed by default and has to be turned on in your account.
- Embed Images allows you to embed images in your email meaning they will load by default rather than forcing the viewer to download them. However, because contacts aren't choosing to download images you will likely see a drop in views/opens when using this feature and the overall size of your sends will be much larger. Also, this only applies to images in the email, not those inserted via content variables or referenced to in CSS. NOTE: This functionality isn't deployed by default and has to be turned on in your account.
Under the top menu you will find your email template. Any content in an editable bodyslot will be editable. Branded content outside of a bodyslot (background, header, footer) can only be edited at the template level in Template Builder. Some templates are designed with pre-set content in the editable bodyslots, while others are left empty. You can use the Standard Editor or the Drag & Drop Editor (if activated in your account) to compose your message. Once your email is finished, you can click the Next Arrow or Click on Preview & Test to move on to the Preview &Test step.
