Unsubscribing a Contact
If one of your subscribers asks you to remove them from your mailing list, do not Delete their contact record! By deleting a contact, you lose all historical data about that contact, including their suppression status (i.e. their unsubscribe status). Instead of deleting a contact, there are a few ways that you can flag a contact as Suppressed, which will ensure they never receive emails from you.
If the contact has Replied to or Forwarded the last email you sent to them, you can click the Unsubscribe link in that email and complete the Unsubscribe process on their behalf. Each recipient of your email gets a personalized Unsubscribe link, so your click will take you to their personal unsubscribe page. NOTE: Unless a contact reaches out or you know they were accidentally suppressed, we do not recommend unsubscribing a contact. Sending again to a contact who unsubscribed from you marketing emails would put you in violation of CAN-SPAM law.
You can suppress one or more contacts in the list view by checking the boxes to the right of each contact you wish to suppress and the clicking the Suppression Flag icon. NOTE: The Suppression Flag Icon will only appear once at least one contact has been selected.
You can also set or remove the Suppression Flag on an individual Contact record. If you accidentally suppress a contact, the only way to unsuppress them is on the individual contact record. Uncheck the Suppressed box in their contact record. (Remember to Save!) NOTE: You should only ever unsuppress a contact when they have explicitly asked for you to do so or if you accidentally suppressed the contact by mistake.
