Query Builder

View a walk-through of Query Builder in the emfluence ClickLearn section here.

An advance searching tool, Query Builder allows you to search by mulitple criteria as well as search multiple groups. Along with offering pre-set starter queries, Query Builder is designed in three search modes: Match ALL criteria, Match ANY criteria, and Advanced.

Query Builder allows you to start off by choosing a Source Group. You can either search your All group or narrow your search before you get started by using the dropdown to choose a specific group. Choosing your Source Group is important, especially when you plan to create a Dynamic Group based off your query as the Source Group will be the list of contacts feeding your Dynamic Group. If you plan on saving your search as a Dynamic Group we suggest not using your All group as a Source Group but instead using or creating a new static group where you can update as needed with new contacts who would be available for the Dynamic Group.

If you want to allow a recipient to unsubscribe from emails from Dynamic Group (without unsubscribing from all of your emails, you will want to make your Source Group public and provide it with a Friendly Name.

Match ALL Criteria

By default Query Builder is set to "Match ALL Criteria" meaning it is searching the combination of every piece of data. For a result to come back ALL criteria must be met. In the below example on a single contact match our criteria of matching "emfluence" as their Company AND "Support" as their last name. Above each of the numbered criteria you will see your query listed out in numerically, for this example we are looking for results only when 1 AND 2 are both true.

Match ANY Criteria

Instead of using AND, Matching ANY Criteria allows you to use OR. In this example we are looking for all our contacts whose company is emfluence OR whose email address ends in emfluence.com

Advanced

The Advanced option allows you to combine both AND and OR for a more complex query. You will notice that in the Advanced option you have the ability to both Add criteria (as you had before) but now you also have the ability to Add nested criteria. In this example we are looking for all those with Gmail addresses in our contact records whose zip code is either between 66201 and 66214 OR whose zip code is between 66101 and 66118. Because we definitely want only Gmail users for this paticular query we want to make sure that criteria stays outside of the nested group which is further limiting only the Gmail users we have chosen.

After completing your search you have the ability to save your results as either a Static Group (what we refer to as regular groups in the emfluence system) or a Dynamic Group. If you are using relative dates such finding contacts whose birthday is today you will want to save as a Dyanmic Group.
